Grupo Mayan resorts: You Can Do That?

February 26th, 2009

Water sports, say the Grupo Mayan pros, encompass a huge variety of activities that can be done in the water, on the water, and under the water. Many water sports are available onsite at the luxurious Grupo Mayan resorts. Guests will find water sports from scuba diving to kite surfing at their Grupo Mayan resort.

In order to let Grupo Mayan guests know the extent of water sports available they have collected an extensive list of the common, and not so common, water sports. Not all of these are offered at the Grupo Mayan resorts but they all sound fun.

Water activities that are done in the water include some of the more well known activities such as swimming, water polo, snorkeling, diving, and water slides. There are many other activities that can also be done while in the water. Triathlons have one portion of the race held in the water, usually involving swimming. Rescue swimming is a sport practiced by lifeguards and involves the rescue of others. Rescue swimming competitions tournaments are held in several areas. Water gymnastics are similar to regular gymnastics but done in the water.

Underwater activities in the water, say the Grupo Mayan pros, are just as varied as the activities done in the water. Scuba diving uses special equipment for breathing while exploring the underwater environment. Free diving involves the use of no equipment and participants dive as deep as they can while holding their breath.  Underwater hockey is played under water with sticks and weighted pucks. The players wear masks with snorkels and fins say the Grupo Mayan pros. Underwater rugby is also an underwater sport similar to underwater hockey.

The Grupo Mayan pros tell us that a plethora of water sports can be enjoyed on the water´s surface. Skurfing, riding behind a boat on a surfboard, was a precursor to another on the water sport called knee boarding. Skurfing is still practiced and is popular along the California coastline. Waterskiing is also very popular. Participants ride on skis behind a boat. Taken a step further, say the Grupo Mayan pros, is barefoot skiing in which no skis are used and the person skims across the water on his bare feet behind a very fast boat.  Body boarding uses a board that is smaller than a surfboard and lets a person ride the waves without having to stand up.

There are many boating activities for above water enjoyment according to the Grupo Mayan pros. Canoeing, yachting, sailing, kayaking, fishing, and many other fun activities can be enjoyed from a boat. Jet Skis are also a fun way to power through the ocean water. White water rafting is an extreme water sport enjoyed on fast water rivers. Rafting will require a lot of nerve and a guide, say the Grupo Mayan pros, but it is tons of fun.

The Grupo Mayan water sport pros hope you will have fun with the many water sports at your Grupo Mayan resort destination.
