Grupo Mayan Resorts: Snorkeling for the Whole Family

What is a family vacation without fun activities for the whole family? While on your family vacation at one of our family-tastic Grupo Mayan resorts you will find a multitude of activities you will enjoy together.
One of our guests´ favorite family activities while at our Grupo Mayan resorts is snorkeling. This water sport requires a minimum of training and equipment and can be enjoyed by all ages, including the very young.
Our Grupo Mayan water sport professionals advise you to make sure your children understand water safety and the fundamentals of swimming before you try to instruct them in snorkeling. Children respond better to instruction that is broken down into small chunks and if you overwhelm a child with too much information he will lose interest or become frustrated. This will not lead to an interest in the sport.
The Grupo Mayan professionals warn that all snorkeling equipment purchased for your child fit appropriately. It is important that snorkeling equipment purchased for your child be the correct size, not equipment they will grow into some day. There is a difference between adult snorkeling equipment and snorkeling gear appropriate for children. When a child is wearing teen sized clothing he will be ready for adult sized snorkeling equipment.
When you purchase the equipment for your children you can get them involved in preparing and putting the gear together. Your children can try the gear out in the bathtub if they would like. Make sure you supervise all attempts with the new equipment. If you have time before your Grupo Mayan trip, take your children to the pool and let them try out the snorkeling equipment.
All of our Grupo Mayan resorts are surrounded by beautiful ocean waters. When you arrive, and before you go snorkeling, walk with your children to the beach and let them spend some time in the ocean water. This is especially important if your child has never been in the ocean. It is important for the child to see and feel the differences between the ocean and pool water.
If you feel that your child would benefit from professional instruction, the Grupo Mayan staff will be available onsite during your vacation to work with you and your family. Our instructors can help with the proper way to wear and use snorkel equipment. They can also recommend the best places around the resort property for snorkeling.
If your equipment does not include a life vest make sure to get one from our staff. Never take a child snorkeling without a proper life vest.
Make sure you buddy up before you go into the water. Every child should have an adult with them when they snorkel. Your goal should be for your kids to have a great time, get in some exercise, and learn about the wonderful tropical underwater environments surrounding the Grupo Mayan resorts.
