Grupo Mayan Resorts: Parasailing

May 25th, 2009

Parasailing is an exciting recreational activity where a person or persons are being towed behind a boat while attached to a parachute that is known as a parasail. Grupo Mayan experts say that the boat then drives off carrying the parasail into the air. The person in the parasail has no control over the parachute.

Grupo Mayan experts know that there are six parts of the parasail. There is a harness, the pilot, the parasail, the boat, and the towrope. Grupo Mayan experts state that parasailing is considered an amusement ride and we have parasailing boats located at all of the resorts.

Parasailing was developed in 1961 by Pierre-Marcel Lemoigne. The first parasail flight was also the same year in France. Today the US Patent Office has given McCulloh the only patents related to parasailing equipment and methods.

When parasailing at Grupo Mayan Mexican resorts, we work with the local Parasailing Associations to make sure that everyone has a safe and fun time. Parasailing operators have turned into professional and highly organized operations. The largest operators are located in the Caribbean.

Grupo Mayan sailing experts say that in 1998 Mark McCulloh was the founding member of the Parasail Safety Council which published the first parasail safety guidelines, and provides the public with information about parasailing which can be found at all of our resorts that offer parasailing to our guests. In 2003 the Professional Association of Parasail Operators was formed to also promote safety of the sport and help this industries image.

Parasailing operators offer double and triple flights using a tandem bar. A tandem bar is an aluminum bar that is attached to the parachute, which allows up to three passengers to be harnessed side by side.

Grupo Mayan parasailing flights are done with about 750 feet of line though some operators feel safe using up to two thousand feet. This line is normally made up of a braided nylon.

Grupo Mayan experts want you to know that the oldest parasailing record was authenticated in April 2007 by an 87-year old man. He is the oldest person who has parasailed in the world. Grupo Mayan sport experts want our guests to feel comfortable regardless of their age doing any of our many outdoor water sport activities.
