One of the more specialized water sports you can participate in while on vacation at a Grupo Mayan resort is scuba diving at night.  This sport is not for beginning divers and requires intense instruction and safety measures in order for your night diving experience to be safe and successful.

If you think underwater environments are beautiful during the day, wait until you experience the fish and reefs of the ocean at night.  You will discover new creatures that roam the water during the night hours.

Some of these fish are more colorful and interesting than their daytime counterparts. The professional scuba divers onsite at all Grupo Mayan resorts can arrange for your night dive and will guide you through some of the most unique ocean beds in the world.

If you plan on night diving while at a Grupo Mayan resort, our diving professionals would like to offer you the following advice.

ï    Dive only with one of our diving professionals on a guided diving trip. This will reduce the likelihood of getting lost in the dark waters. Noting major underwater landmarks and the use of incandescent markers are both important during a night dive. The Grupo Mayan diving pros are familiar with the waters and depths you intend to dive.

ï    Use only scuba equipment that has been pre-tested for its performance and reliability. You will want to check and double check your dive equipment before your night dive.

ï    Use lighting devices during your night dive. In addition to a torch light, bring a smaller, backup light and a chemical light with you. You will need plenty of lighting devices to light up the dark waters, to get good views of underwater environments, and for communication. Check to see that all lights have a dependable power source. If you lose your main light you should resurface as soon as possible.

ï    Learn basic signals that can be communicated by light.  You can catch another diverís attention by crossing your light rays with their light source.  Then pointing your lighting device towards yourself or your scuba equipment if it is in need of immediate attention. As soon as everything is back to normal draw a circle with your light to let other divers know that everything is okay. Remember that when you are communicating with other divers you should try to avoid flashing your light towards marine creatures or the eyes of your buddies as this will shock them into immobility.

The Grupo Mayan scuba diving professionals tell us that if you have the proper training, certification, and experience then night diving at the Grupo Mayan resorts is an experience you will never forget. Get equipped with excellent scuba equipment and gear specifically for use during a night dive. There are specialized masks, tanks, and lights used only for night diving.  They have been designed to allow for better night vision and diving ease.

The Grupo Mayan pros will be excited to guide you on the night dive of your life.
