Grupo Mayan Resorts: How to Surf
May 22nd, 2009
Grupo Mayan experts have some great advice on how to surf. Please remember that these are just tips for a beginners and not try to make things more advanced than you can handle. Remember if you cannot handle the water without a board, do not attempt to handle one with it.
1. You have to have a wet suit and a surfboard. This much is obvious. Your first surfboard should be made out of foam. If you get another type you can end up hurting someone when you lose control. You will lose control until you become more comfortable surfing with more practice.
2. Grupo Mayan surf experts recommend going to a surf spot for beginners. More advanced surfers or people in surf shops will be able to point in you the right direction.
3. The first thing that you have to do is make sure to practice lying down on the board in the sand. Grupo Mayan surf professionals want you to make sure that you are not next to the waves or they will end up washing you down.
4. While still on the sand move into a kneeling position. Grupo Mayan experts stress that you have to take your time. In the water you will have to keep yourself balanced so start working on balance now.
5. Next, in one swift movement you will need to unbend your legs. This way you are standing up. Avoid moving around because again you’re going to have to work on your balance.
6. You will be able to practice these moves several times with a Grupo Mayan instructor before you move into the water with your board. You need to make sure that you carry it out as far as you can in the water.
7. Remember the first thing you did was have to lie on your stomach in the middle of the board. Grupo Mayan representatives want you to do that again but this time in the water. You will want to paddle straight into the waves.
8. You will have to turn yourself around by paddling even harder to the side that you want to turn away.
9. The waves will be coming up behind you. Grupo Mayan surf experts say that don’t let them take you by surprise.
10. Scoot your body onto a sitting position on your board. Go through the motions that you practiced on the sand. Crouch slowly on your board but then stand quickly.
