Grupo Mayan Things Know Before Body Boarding

Body boarding is a great way to enjoy your time in the ocean, there is no doubt about that but there are some things that you should know about the safety factors while body boarding.  Even if you have been before, say the Grupo Mayan experts, you might know most of these safety tips and some might be new to you, but it is a good idea to always keep these tips fresh in your mind when you plan to head out for a fun day on the ocean.

Generally speaking, body boarding is done on the ocean but some also do it in a lake being pulled behind a boat so these safety tips apply to both methods.

Make sure that you are realistic in your limitations, say the Grupo Mayan professionals.  You might be a very good swimmer and decide to go for the gusto and head far out, but just because you are a good swimmer, does not mean you are experienced enough on a body board to go out too far.  The surf can be quite powerful especially the further you get out and you can easily be sucked under.  You also have to keep in mind how close you are to rocks and the reef areas because they can be very dangerous for you.

Only being equipped with a body board is not advisable, say the Grupo Mayan experts, especially if you are new to body boarding.  It is a good idea to wear a wet suit and some fins.  If you try to rely on your arm strength alone, you will find yourself tiring out a lot sooner and you also might suffer from cramping which can cause you to make a fatal mistake out in the surf.  With the use of fins you can alternate back and forth between arm paddling and paddling with your feet, additionally, it is a lot easier to catch waves this way most of the time since you have freed up your arms to help push your board in a forward motion for the surf.

Understanding the way the ocean works helps as well, say the Grupo Mayan pros.  Every body of water has its own distinct characteristics but even those characteristics can change from time to time based on the weather and the lunar pull.  There might be currents that you can rely on to always go the same way or tides that are about the same distance apart most of the time but you should not always rely on that because the weather can change the tide.  If you underestimate the condition of the water you are in at the time you might end up tiring yourself out to easy and getting caught up in a situation that you cannot get yourself out of.

Lastly, say the Grupo Mayan experts, the chances of you being alone out there are slim.  You need to keep yourself mindful of the other body boarders or surfers in the water.  Keep a safe distance and respect their right to share the waters with you.

Have a great time on your next body boarding adventure, but remember these tips and you should have a much more pleasurable time.
