Grupo Mayan Resorts: Enjoy Underwater Sightseeing
April 17th, 2009
Underwater sightseeing is a very popular activity here in Grupo Mayan resorts. It involves snorkeling gear much like scuba diving and has a mask, fins, and a short tube called a snorkel with a mouthpiece attachment. Snorkeling is done just below the surface of the bodies of water. Many sea resorts just like Grupo Mayan provide snorkeling as an added attraction.
Snorkeling is very popular since it opens up a whole new world for underwater sightseeing. Just like the seas where Grupo Mayan resorts are located, people are much attracted to the wide varieties of animal life, fishes, mollusks, kelps, jellyfish, and all kinds of rays. Sometimes people can touch and feel these plant and animal life while snorkeling. There are more underwater organisms than we have on land and this fact alone makes underwater sightseeing an exciting thing to perform.
Snorkeling, in the strictest sense is not an actual adventure sport. It is more sightseeing and is not as risky as compared to water rafting, bungee jumping and other extreme water sports. The thrills obtained here are of a different kind according to our Grupo Mayan resort guests.
Scuba diving, which comes close in comparison, is also different since scuba diving is done in deep waters and this requires more equipment that is sophisticated. Snorkeling uses lightweight gear, more comfortable and does not have to deal with extreme water pressures. Snorkeling can be done and enjoyed by people of different ages as long as they know how to swim.
Before engaging in snorkeling activities, our Grupo Mayan professionals and trainers need to prepare first timers and novices on how to prepare for potential hazards. These include mask or snorkel flooding, pressure build-up on the ear canals, and low water visibility due to silt. Contact with corals can also create cuts in hands and legs, and there is the danger or sea urchins and eels. Yet, these minor hazards are not serious or deterrent enough to keep enthusiasts to enjoy this water activity.
Great snorkeling destinations can be found all across the globe, as long as the water is calm enough not to cause any snorkel flooding. These destinations also have an abundant aquatic life for underwater sightseeing to be enjoyable. These destinations include the Caribbean, the Hawaiian Islands, Galapagos Islands, and the coasts of Mexico where Grupo Mayan resorts are located.
There are many people adventurous enough to engage in nocturnal snorkeling because exciting marine life can be observed at night. Snorkelers use a bright underwater torch to see underwater. They also have a chemical light tied around the waist so passing boats will be able to see them.
These and several other thrills explain why underwater sightseeing or snorkeling has become one of the most favorite water activities by people worldwide and here at Grupo Mayan resorts.
